This "L" visa type is reserved for multi-national businesses to transfer their managerial or technical personnel from the overseas home office to the subsidiary or branch office in the United States. It has the following sub-categories:

1. L-1A for executive or managerial personnel;
2. L-1B for personnel with specialized knowledge; and,
3. L-2 for the spouse and children of either L-1A or L-1B.
